The Finisher

New Year resolutions usually take the form of setting goals with a specific purpose in one particular realm of your life; such as stop smoking, losing weight or flossing daily. While all these goals are admirable and possibly life improving; I have decided to take a less anchored yet equally challenging road to my resolve this year. Perhaps you are brave enough to jump on the wagon with me?

My resolve is to be a Finisher! Very few people in this world are finishers; this is why success is often seen as difficult or unattainable. It requires a certain amount of self-discipline and tenacity to be a finisher. Imagine; you are at the starting blocks of a race, 100 meter sprint, or marathon; your choice. The starting pistol sounds and you take off at top speed thinking of all the glory at the end of this race; then, at the halfway mark you stop running and begin walking the track. Then you start to perform another sporting event; the long jump or shot putt for instance…. absurdly most people live their lives this way. Without exaggeration how many things do you think you have started and never finished?

Most people are Starters; even though starting can be difficult, most of us manage to get at least that far. Even the world’s worst procrastinators start their projects when it comes down to crunch time. How many of us out there started guitar lessons or tennis lesson when we were younger? Do you have crafts and household projects that are 2/3 of the way complete and are serving no purpose because they are not finished? How many half done projects lay cluttered in your mind with the “someday maybe I’ll get to it” reminder going off in your head at inopportune times.

What you may not know is that though those projects are out of sight they are not out of mind. Somewhere in your subconscious, there is that little nagging voice trying to figure out when you are going to finish. Those nagging thoughts are a major cause of stress and sleepless night’s in our lives. Not being a Finisher is inadvertently bad for your health; taking a toll on you physically, mentally and emotionally. Sadly, this kind of behavior is also bad for your self-esteem because you start to doubt your own ability to follow through on your own promises. This is not the type of relationship I want to have with someone; especially not with myself.

The secret to being a success is to become a Finisher; see the task or project through to the very end. If at first you don’t succeed; dust yourself off and try again should be the attitude taken instead of quitting. Make it a habit to follow through to achieve your desired results.

Going back to the race, imagine at the halfway point, you dig down deep within yourself to muster all your strength, energy, and conviction. Focusing on your goal, you cross over the finish line; a feeling of elation and pride rushes over you; this is what it feels like when you see something to fruition.

This year my plate will encompass many tasks and projects; but they will all have one thing in common I will work my hardest to see every undertaking through to completion. Not only will it better my opinion of myself, but I will be able to enjoy the fruits of my labor, whether it is in learning a new language, organizing my closet once and for all, or growing my income. “I’m finished!” is my new Mantra for the year!

The Excelling Habit

In this current economic time, being forced to rethink your life goals may be the biggest blessing you have ever received. It may give you a chance to start over again, to head in a direction you have always dreamed of and to get back on a track that speaks more to your values. The opportunities you will be faced with are highly dependant upon your excelling habit.

All that it takes to excel is to go a little further or do a little more each day until you reach your destination. In an old childhood fable, the tortoise and the hare, we learn that slow and steady wins the race. By methodically taking one step after another you are bound to get to where you want to go. Many people however, don’t want to be the tortoise; they are hoping they can be the hare and the story will miraculously have a different outcome just for them.

This is evident in the many people who are looking for instant gratification in one form or another, jumping in and out of get rich quick schemes or looking for short cuts that will allow them not to work in life. What they don’t realize is that the people who are truly considered great; work! Most overnight successes will tell you it took them at least 15 years to get to where they are now, by working daily towards their success. The Beatles played hundreds of live shows for hours on end before the British invasion. All of the world’s great athletes honed their innate talents into solid skill by practicing and training for hours on end.

The moral to this story is that you can be a success as long as you are willing and disciplined enough to do the necessary work. You don’t even have to do it alone! Work as a team towards a common goal and motivate others to do something towards their success daily. Lead by example let them see the progress you are making and how you are making it.

What will a little effort on your part bring to realization? Could getting on the phone with a potential protégé to help them close a sale put more money in their pocket; their success leading to your success? Can traveling a little each day to teach a team member how to market more effectively possibly boost your camaraderie; and motivate each other to achieve your goals? You can become a winner by making a habit out of what others might consider a hassle. Make a habit of doing more than the minimum it takes to get by and you will find that there is no traffic jam on that extra mile to success.

In this New Year we look forward to bringing changes that are mutually beneficial to the company and IDTs alike. In this time, when our thoughts turn to job and financial security, the Management team has chosen to work to evolve strategies that will strengthen the CDT Brand and the relationship between CDT Corporate and it’s IDTs.

In 2009, our primary areas of development will be to build more aggressive advancements in our business model and our products, which the corporate office will use to significantly boost and support our Diamond Traders all over the globe. We will achieve our goals by providing solutions in the following areas:

- Identifying the challenges you face as a Diamond Trader, and offering solutions to those obstacles.

- Sharing a more open communication channel, so your journey as an IDT will be an enjoyable one, as well as corporate training for all who are a part of our valuable marketing force.

- Providing you with tools that work for your marketing campaigns, by working with you more closely to develop what you need.

- Establishing and encouraging a more solid corporate culture that will foster a spirit of dedication and cooperation amongst all members of team CDT, our IDT’s, our staff and Management.

It takes a great deal of individual and collective energy to have continuous and consistent success in an organization. We continue to strive towards building for long-term growth and prosperity for our clients and our company. The streamlining and increasing of productivity is one of the fastest growing industries today; GTD (Getting Things Done) or mastering workflow is helping many people to figure out what they have to do, why they need to do it, when it has to be done, where it will take place, who needs to be involved, and how to do it more efficiently. With the sheer amount of things that any person must do in any one given day, GTD helps to free your mind from an overwhelming onslaught of things that you may feel must be done now.

One of the major issues some IDTs encounter is the feeling of being inundated when it comes to taking the next step. What step do I take next? Who do I call? How do I contact them? All of the questions can be funneled down to the next logical step and help anyone get over the feeling of being stuck and unable to move forward. I have recently come across one GTD technique, that I’m sure will help you to plan out your next step; it is called Mind Mapping. It is one of the most effective ways in which you can find out what you need to accomplish next, in order to be successful in the DTP. Mind mapping is a simple, almost organic, method of putting your thoughts before you to fine-tune your next action steps. Simply follow the map you have laid out for yourself to arrive at your destination for success.

How do you use mind mapping to help you reach your goals in the DTP? First things first, you need to get all the info written down in front of you, right where you can see it. The what, where, when, why, who, and how of all the things you thought of starting or doing in order to go through the DTP the way you have always dreamed of. Write down what you want to accomplish, and when you want to start seeing results? Who is on your team or needs to be on your team to achieve theses results, and where you will have to do most of your work from in order to get there? Figure out what are long-term goals and what can be done immediately. It is from this list that you will map out your next action steps.

For this example we will use Kim! Her long-term goal is to cycle from the DTP weekly by the end of the year 2009. Her short-term goal is to start communication with her upline and downline, both of whom she has not talked to since she entered the DTP in 2006. Kim’s mind map will look something like the one below.

Ultimate goal:
Begin to cycle out of the DTP once a week by the end of 2009

To Reach My Ultimate Goal:
-Get Qualified for Project Millionaire
-Look at my DNA and find out whom I have to work with
-Learn how to use my Replicator website
-Talk to people on my tables that aren’t working EITHER
-Put some ads in my community paper
-Get my diamond in hand right away
-Talk to those people I met who were interested in Diamonds
-Talk to my brother about buying a diamond when he is ready to propose to his girlfriend
-Call back the people I was nervous to talk to who replied to my email campaign

As you can see above Kim has a To Do list that can help her to reach her Ultimate goal; her next step needs to be figuring out the next action steps she needs to take in order to reach her desired outcome.

Which steps can she do immediately that will take the least amount of time than do those first. I.e. Kim can “Call back the people I was nervous to talk to who replied to my email campaign” In a few minutes she can call these people and make an appointment to talk to them about CDTs diamonds or the DTP. Kim can then send an E message to all the other IDTs on her table inviting them to go for the same goal of cycling weekly and set up an appointment for them to devise a plan together. Kim has just taken one more step towards her goal all in about one hour out of her day.

The key to getting things done in the DTP or in life in general is not only knowing what needs to be done but the next action steps required to get you to your goals quickly. Take some time today to map out all that you want to accomplish with CDT.

Is the world heading into a global depression? Or will we be able to stem the tide before the worst is to happen. Trillions of dollars of wealth have all but evaporated in the past couple of weeks, my advice to everyone affected by this situation; “Don’t Panic!”

The first step in knowing what to do, is to appreciate how this financial crisis happened in the first place. One of the major reasons, for the economic crumble is the uneven distribution of wealth around the world. The top 1% of the

rich make more money than the bottom 50% of people all together. The only way to even the playing field is to even out the distribution of wealth. Since its inception, CDT has built its foundation by providing an opportunity to the average person to share in the pie by spreading the chips to more hands. As Marriner S. Eccles (FDR’s Chairman of the Federal Reserve) put it “As is in a poker game where the chips were concentrated in fewer and fewer hands. The other fellows could stay in the game only by borrowing. Diamonds are Odd! Of all the objects found on this earth nothing is as enigmatic, coveted, or as mysterious as the diamond. This stone represents love, luxury, security, and at times even a cure, a talisman, or a bad omen. So for your perusal here are a few odd facts, myths, and beliefs about diamonds.

Diamond Origins – in some ancient cultures; diamonds were believed to come from a place where snakes guarded a land full of diamonds that could only be retrieved by the bravest and purest of people. Ancient Greeks considered diamonds to be “splinters of stars fallen to Earth” or “teardrops of the Gods.” Diamonds in fact were first recorded in the country of India 3,000 years ago.

Diamonds for Protection – When diamonds were first discovered they were used as a talisman against poisoning and to ward of evil spirits. They were mostly set in idols of worship or worn by kings for protection. Since diamonds were known for their utter

indestructibility, kings studded their leather breastplates with diamonds as a primitive and expensive form of bullet- (or sword!) proof vest. The brilliant sparkle also warned away potential assassins, because diamonds were seen as the sole domain of kings and the magical powers of diamonds were said to turn malicious against those who harmed their bearers.

Diamonds as Bad Luck – Though a symbol of love; the luxurious diamond can sometimes carry a curse. In India centuries ago when diamonds where used as talismans of good luck, stones with inclusions would not be used as they were considered bad luck. It was said that evil spirits that were being warded off could become trapped in the inclusion of the diamond and effect people. The diamond, which is most notoriously bad luck, is the Hope diamond. According to the story, this diamond became cursed when it was plucked (stolen) from an idol in India. All those who came to possess it since have experienced bad luck and death.

Diamonds as a Cure – In the Dark Age’s diamonds came to be viewed as a form of medicine; it was believed to heal wounds and cure illnesses. The sick were instructed to hold a diamond in their hand while making the sign of the cross. In history, some people went as far as swallowing diamonds, hoping it would cure their illnesses magically. A diamond could heal a sick person if he took it to bed and warmed it with his body, breathed upon it while fasting, or wore it near the skin, and potions were made from diamonds in the hope that the magical properties of the stone would pass to whomever swallowed it and cure him.

Diamonds and Libations – while most people don’t believe that ingesting diamonds can help anymore, it has not stopped a new trend of some bars charging astronomical prices for special martinis or champagne with diamonds in the glass. The going price for such a libation, $10 000 up front please!

Diamonds can be Macabre – The drinks above have diamonds in them but the patrons are not expected to swallow the diamonds, mostly because it is to expensive but also there is still the underlying superstition that diamonds can be poisonous. Catherine di Medici’s favorite means of dispensing death to her enemies was death by diamond powder. Whether this is true or not the rumor likely kept miners from swallowing diamonds in hopes of stealing them. Diamonds today have found another Creepy link with death; people are increasingly using the ashes of loved ones in order to have diamonds made. Whether a beloved pet or a deceased husband, people are finding new and innovative ways to keep their loved one with them (literally), after all, life forms like diamonds are made of carbon, so a little time under High Temperature and High Pressure and your rock solid love lives on forever.
